He Found Himself Alone

*

He found himself alone where no one
ever was alone, like starlight
moving in omnipresent waves but
only seen as a pinprick
in the deep void.

“Every story has a happy ending,”
he convinced himself and began to
walk toward a beautiful wish.

Now where has he gone?
His map is no longer a territory.

  1. I like the science underlying these lines: that stars appear to us as pinpricks but that, as you say, starlight is moving constantly in waves. But the poem takes us into other domains and is ultimately very unsettling.
