The Answer to Every Question Ever Asked

The world does not revolve around you.

Yet, your understanding of who other people are
and what has transpired in the world around you
comes primarily from your assessment of thoughts
and actions not your own, and you possess a
wide latitude for their interpretation. Thus, even
if you begin by seeking the truth, you ultimately
hear what you want to hear.

(Unless, you are filled with doubt; then, you will
believe just about anything.)

Do you not fathom how vulnerable you truly
are to self-deception, to calculated manipulation
of your fears and your sympathies, to slick talkers
who dub themselves protectors of your best
interests, to a thousand subtle avenues we can
never entirely map out?

( . . . )

I think I finally understand you.
You cannot follow me into
the terror of existential
discovery. I’m just
tired of being
all alone
and–

(When you find the people who care about you
more than anything else, the world does begin
to spin through your gravity in some small yet
invaluable way.)
