I think I’ll stop writing
Because I am producing what
So few people want to read.
I think I’ll stop writing
Because others will pick up
The slack. There is no shortage
Of words out there. One voice
Lost from the crowd will go
Unremarked upon.
I think I’ll stop writing
Because of all the celebrated
White noise and the knowledge
That so many do not wish to
Bolster literacy but revel in
Its downfall.
I’ll think stop writing
Because, perhaps, I am just
Envious of every poem and story
And anecdote more memorable
Than any of my own.
I think I’ll stop writing
But here I am again typing
My ideas into your consciousness.
I . . .
I think I’ll stop writing
This poem and start writing
Something else. I think by now
I’ve convinced myself to abandon
Self-fulfilling pity and defy even
My own expectations.

I think I’ll stop writing, too, but I never do. Two more writers gone with the wind? Nah. We cannot take ourselves seriously. That would be absurd.
Nice poem, Michael. Blessings to you…

Thanks I needed to read this. Agreed w/ Carol too! Listen to your madly creative writer’s brain, to overshadow the strict rules & harsh expectations of the inner critic.

Yes, Michael – you have expressed what I feel often … but stopping writing is really not an option, is it? 🙂

There is so much content out there and not enough eyes to peruse it all…That makes for a lot of angst when it comes to those of us who need to write…You gotta have a sense of humor about it to keep sane…
Thank you for the visit 🙂
