Forms of Domestication We Can Believe In

No mouse ran along the skirting board.
Various vermin refrained from that
Backdrop, yet ruefully
The cat kept vigilant watch over
The wall. Relentless eyes.
Stony silence.

The dog, however, all bright face and
Wagging tail, would break into a chase
At any passing car even though it
Could not abide the harsh taste
Of fender.

  1. Okay, so you have descirbed my dog perfectly…the way she chases bikes and any truck on the road… πŸ˜€

And then – bad news – the new flat I recently moved into has MICE…so I found this poem really relevant to me right now! Oh sigh…I wish I had a cat though!
