Arrivederci Ai Bei Sogni

 
 
It seems that we give the most love
to those who we fear, as if affection
were a currency exchanged
for safety. Perhaps that is how we
have survived so long.

I awoke this morning with
the word “goodbye” emblazoned
in my mind. Not because I want
to go anywhere, but
because
I am no longer afraid.
